Registration is now open! Join the Arts Professional Learning Institute and New Jersey Arts Education Collective for Connect 2021, a virtual arts education conference held June 11 - 12, 2021. A virtual happy hour with performances by The Mayhem Poets will be held on June 10.

This year, the conference theme is reCONNECT. The virtual conference will focus on arts educator health and wellness, joy and connection through the act of creating, and centering our work through a lens of social justice and equity. Featured workshops include “Mental Health & Wellness for Creators and Educators,” “The Business of Teaching Artistry,” “Antiracism: Raising Consciousness,” and a block of Arts for Art’s Sake workshops in Literary Arts, Music, Dance, Theatre, and Visual Arts.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Christopher Emdin, a tenured professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Technology at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he also serves as Associate Director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education. He is the author of the award-winning book Urban Science Education for the Hip-Hop Generation and the New York Times Best Seller, For White Folks Who Teach In The Hood and the Rest of Ya’ll Too. Emdin has been named one of the The Root 100 Most Influential African Americans and one of the 27 people bridging divides across America by Times magazine. His newest books Ratchetdemic and STEM, STEAM, MAKE, DREAM will be released in 2021.

reCONNECT is open to any teaching artist, arts educator, and arts administrator living or working in the state of New Jersey. ($15/registrant) Some scholarship registrations are available for rostered teaching artists. Inquire at sclarke@yanjep.org for more information.
